Introduction

The Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) Program in Bangladesh has been started since 2001. Total of 198 fellows have been sent to Japan under the program so far and another 15 fellows will be dispatched in August 2012.
JDS Program is now inviting potential applicants who understand its aims and are interested in 2 years master degree program at Japanese accepting universities for the academic year 2013-2014.The program at Japanese universities will be instructed in English. The number of dispatches is 15 per year.

Sub-Program/ Component and Accepting University

Fields of study, so called “Sub-Program” and “Component”, correspond to and deal with the priority issues for the social and economic development of Bangladesh. The participants of JDS Program in Bangladesh shall be selected from the “BCS Cadre Officials and Bangladesh Bank Class-1 Officers” whose mission is closely related to the respective “Sub-Program” and “Component”. This approach gives its most importance on “Selection and Concentration” on the development issues of the country, securing further effectiveness and efficiencies of the JDS project.

Eligible Applicants

  • 1. Nationality: Bangladesh Nationals;
  • 2. Age: Below Forty (40) as of April 1, 2013 (Born on/after April 2, 1973);
  • 3. Academic Background: Completed sixteen (16) years of school education with at least Bachelor's degree. At least two (2) First Divisions or equivalent with no Third Division;
  • 4. Work Experience:
    [ for BCS Cadre Officials ]
    1) Public Administration, Economics, Environmental Policy and International Relations: To be a confirmed member of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Cadre for at least two (2) years of work experience as full-time employee in Government Service;
    [ for Bangladesh Bank Class-1 Officers ]
    2) Economics and Environmental Policy: To be a Bangladesh Bank Class-1 Officers for at least two (2) years of work experience as full-time employee in Bangladesh Bank;
  • 5. Permission:
    • 1) Applicants must obtain permission for their appropriate department or person (Prescribed Form).
    • 2) Applicants from BCS Cadres are required to complete necessary Foundation Training Course by April 1, 2013 and eligible to get the deputation for full period of preparatory orientation as well as study in Japan before departure for Japan.
    • 3) Applicants from Bangladesh Bank are required to be eligible to get the deputation for full period of preparatory orientation as well as study in Japan before departure for Japan.
  • 7. English: To have a good command of both written and spoken English (preferably IELTS 6.0, CBT (Computer-Based TOEFL) 213, PBT (Paper Based TOEFL) 550 or above;
  • 8. Health: Must be mentally and physically in good health;
  • 9. Ineligibility:
    • 1) Applicants who have been awarded or are scheduled to receive other scholarship of master's degree program.
    • 2) Applicants who have been taken a master's degree overseas.
    • 3) Military personnel and military civilian employees registered on the active list or those who temporarily leave from the active list.

Application & Selection Procedures

1. JDS Selection Schedule in Bangladesh

  • August 5, 2012: Start of Public Announcement
  • October 4, 2012: Deadline of Submission of Application Form and Required Documents
  • November 16 and 17, 2012: English and Basic Mathematics Examination
  • Late November, 2012 - Mid January, 2013: First Selection (Screening the documents) by Accepting University
  • Late January, 2013: Second Selection (Interview) by Accepting University
  • Mid or Late February, 2013: Third Selection (Interview) by Operating Committee
  • Late February, 2013: Notification to final successful candidates
  • July - August, 2013: Pre-departure Orientation (mandatory)
  • August, 2013: Departure for Japan

2. Application Deadline

October 4, 2012 to the JICE JDS project Office in Bangladesh

Application documents will not be returned for any reason. Late submission and incomplete application documents shall NOT be accepted.

Note

1. Research plan

Before writing the research plan, it is recommended to study "University Information" closely to make sure if the university has curriculums and faculty members relevant to your research plan. Applicants can acquire more information in the website of each university or at JICE JDSProject Office in Bangladesh. 

The research plan should be in connection with the Component and Research Area, the program of applying university and the future career plan in Government Service or Bangladesh Bank after returning to Bangladesh.

Remember that plagiarize from somebody’s work or websites are strongly prohibited.
